This is a short introduction with some pictures of the World Heritage Site at Mapungubwe, South Africa.

Almost a thousand years ago a mighty kingdom ruled the land north of the Zoutpansberg....

Giant baobab trees dot the landscape and elephant still feel some attraction to the "Royal Hill" and can be found browsing on its foothills early in the morning. Following the secret path to the top of Mapungubwe Hill when it is still almost dark, is an eerie feeling that gave me goose-bumps. I couldn't help thinking about the young maidens that must have walked this way many centuries ago.  The view from the top took my breath away!
